Multiple sclerosis is a degenerative autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord). Also known as demyelinating disease, it is thought that the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the myelin sheath that coats and protects nerves, resulting in damage.
To learn more about multiple sclerosis and the people affected by it, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society‘s website and NMSS Youtube channel are great resources.
